“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.”
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On this day in the United States, we celebrate the life and memory of the work of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. We appreciate his contributions in a challenging society that has made much progress in many ways but also has a lot of progress still to go. Specific details aside as they can be very debatable, his life was an example for us to walk out our biblical conviction of obedience to be light bearers in this dark world.
As we reflect on what this day should mean in our Christian walk, may we be challenged to remember those like Dr. King who fought for something bigger than ourselves. This selflessness ultimately reflects God’s kingdom agenda. Below are some scriptures to reflect upon what I gleaned while reading a bible plan by Encounter on YouVersion. We are to be the lights of this world and fulfill our God given purposes on this earth. This gives God glory!
““You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14 ESV
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5 ESV
